What is a magnetic playwall?

A magnetic playwall is a dedicated wall area where children can build, sort, draw and tell stories using magnets. Instead of playing on the floor or fighting over the fridge, kids get their own vertical creative zone. How big is the magnetic play surface?

Wall Compatibility

What walls and surfaces does the MagPlay decal work on?

MagPlay works best on clean, smooth, non-absorbent surfaces: painted walls with a matte, satin or velvet finish, smooth wood, melamine, glass and doors. If your wall fits this description, the MagPlay Wall decal can be applied directly — no board needed. Always review our Wall Compatibility Guide and How to Install guide before applying.

Which walls and surfaces should I avoid?

Avoid applying the decal directly to textured or porous surfaces — including plaster, rendered walls, structured or embossed wallpaper, stain-repellent "easy-clean" paints, fibreglass, brick and lacquer-painted surfaces — as well as outdoor or humid areas. On any of these, we recommend the MagPlay Wall + Board Bundle instead, so you still get a perfect magnetic play surface without relying on your wall.

I'm not sure if my wall is compatible — what should I do?

If you're unsure, go with the MagPlay Wall + Board Bundle. The decal is applied to the included board rather than your wall, so it works regardless of your wall type, paint or texture — and it's portable, so you can move it anywhere in the house. Can I use MagPlay on textured, rendered or brick walls?

Not directly — textured, rendered and brick surfaces won't give the decal a reliable hold. The solution is the MagPlay Wall + Board Bundle: the decal goes onto the smooth included board, which you can then mount or lean wherever you like.

Is MagPlay suitable for rental homes?

Yes. The MagPlay Wall (WallKind™) decal is designed to be removable and repositionable, which makes it popular with renters. That said, application and removal can carry a small risk on painted surfaces depending on the quality of the undercoat and finish, so please check your wall compatibility first. If you'd rather not apply anything to the wall at all, the Wall + Board Bundle is the safest renter-friendly choice.

Will removing the decal damage my wall or paint?

MagPlay is designed for smooth, non-absorbent indoor surfaces and is made to be removable, but as with any adhesive, removal can carry a minimal risk on painted walls — particularly if the undercoat or finishing paint is poor quality. MagPlay can't take responsibility for wall damage during application or removal, so if in doubt, choose the Wall + Board Bundle.
