I'll be honest — for a while there, the telly was doing a fair bit of the parenting in our house. Between work calls, dinner prep and the general chaos of raising little ones, "just one more episode" became the soundtrack of our afternoons. I didn't love it, but I understood it. Screens are easy. Screens are quiet. Screens buy you twenty minutes.

From blank wall to magnetic playwall

There's no right answer on a magnetic playwall, no level to finish. Today it's an animal parade, tomorrow it's letters, next week it's a weather chart we made together.
Screen-free play stopped being a punishment ("no more TV!") and started being an invitation ("go make something on your wall"). That little reframe changed everything for us.
What I'd tell the old me
If you're where I was — a bit guilty, a bit exhausted, ready for something that isn't a screen — start small. You don't need a Pinterest playroom. You need one surface your child can own, at their height, that quietly says "your ideas go here."

The telly still goes on some days. I'm not going to pretend we're a screen-free household with a halo. But it's not the default any more. Now the default is the wall — and that feels like a win I'll take.
